jDBexport release roadmap was created by Rüdiger Schultz
Dear jDBexport users,
To help you planning your resources, we publish our planned update roadmap for jDBexport. Please keep in mind that this timetable is only estimated. The availability of updates depends on many factors, only part of which are controlled by ourselfs...
Please note that this roadmap will be updated continuously as new versionsbranches and versions come available.
Last updated: October 21, 2023
**************************************************************************************************
Versionbranch 5-0-x (next versionbranch)
jDBexport 5 will be a completely rewritten package, in order to fully support all new features and requirements comming from Joomla 5 onwards and also from PHP 8.2 and onwards. We will NOT guarantee any backward compatiblilty with Joomla 4 or below and PHP 8.1 or below (in order to clean up the codebase for the product). This in turn of course means that we will support jDBexport 4-0 versionbranch until December 31, 2025 (2,5 months after Joomla 4 EOL, and more than one year after PHP 8.1 EOL). We will of course provide full support for the upgrade between jDBexport 4-0 and version 5-0.
As for now, we do not have any estimated release date for jDBexport 5-0!
**************************************************************************************************
Versionbranch 4-0-x (current versionbranch)
New features:
We used the PHPExcel library in jDBexport in order to create the various document formats. As the developers of that library are moving forward, they currently create a new product PhpSpreadsheet as "the next version of PHPExcel". This new library is not yet released, but we already prepare to (experimentally) include this new library into jDBexport (for the transition phase, both libraries will be available to create documents with). So once this new library is released, we should pretty soon afterwards be ready to use it - we expect major performance improvements from this step!
This will also allow us to implement a full-scale error handling using a centralized exception handling. This will be especially useful with debugging the document creation, as this currently does not give a lot of specific information about where and what excactly went wrong (in the case something went wrong).
Joomla Update Server
Joomla requires that all third-party extensions are using the Joomla Update Server to communicate updates to their users. We will release this feature in the upcomming versionbranch 4-0
**************************************************************************************************
Versionbranch 3-2-x (previous versionbranch)
is compatible with Joomla 3.3 and higher only, the legacy compatibility with Joomla 2.5 is removed!
jDBexport previous release V-3-2-10 in this versionbranch was released march 23, 2017
**************************************************************************************************
Versionbranch 3-1-x (previous versionbranch)
is compatible with both Joomla 2.5 and Joomla 3.x, and reached it's end-of-life on june 30, 2015
jDBexport last release in this versionbranch was: V-3-1-8
**************************************************************************************************
Versionbranch 3-0-x (previous versionbranch)
is compatible with Joomla 2.5 only, and reached it's end-of-life on january 31, 2015
jDBexport last release in this versionbranch was: V-3-0-5
**************************************************************************************************
We are looking forward to hear your feedback on this release schedule. And if you find this tool helpful, we would greatly appreciate a (positive) review in the JOOMLA Extension directory.
Kind regards
Ruediger Schultz
